Our skin is the largest organ and it protects our internal organs from injuries. Taking care of our skin is important year round and should be a part of our daily routine. In fact, the entire family should have a skin care routine from moms to teens to toddlers.
As moms, our skin care routine is a bit more involved especially if we wear makeup. We want to be sure to remove it really well so we can maintain clear skin.
Quick Tip for Moms: Use cleansing pads for easy makeup removal.
As for the youngsters, teens may use cleansers while only water may be used for babies and toddlers. If you need to use a special cleanser for them for some reason, check with the pediatrician first. Young skin is very sensitive. I remember my daughter breaking out when she first wanted to try my cleanser (she wanted to copy me of course). She was around 7 years old at the time so her skin was still very sensitive at that time. The breakout was minor and cleared up right away but this may not be the case for everyone.
Personally, I am now changing up my skin care routine somewhat. Now that I’m in my late 30s, I’m noticing differences in my skin. Basically, I have to work harder for a beautiful glow. I stopped using the products I loved due to convenience and that probably was a mistake.
We are all so busy so I wanted to be able to just walk in a store and purchase my skin care products but my skin is not reacting well. The products I had used for quite some time (maybe over a decade) are sold by Mary Kay, and so you have to purchase from a consultant. After not being able to get in touch with consultants, I gave up. I know there are great ones out there but I just didn’t meet them. No consistent communication. Hard to reach. It was just too time-consuming. Recently, I looked up local consultants online and chose one. I’ll let you know how it goes because my skin really loves the Mary Kay cleansing products. So, I’m hoping she loves her business and will become my go-to consultant.
3 Simple Skin Care Tips for the Entire Family
Here are some basic skin care tips that are important for all members of your family. They seem so simple yet many people deal with skin problems. I know some of those problems are hormone-related. But let’s do what we can to stave off some of the issues.
Drink Water & Eat Healthy Foods
First, simple skin care begins on the inside. What we put into our bodies shows up on the outside and in our daily health. Be sure to drink the recommended amount of water for your weight size and eat foods rich in nutrients. Foods that contain vitamin A such as low-fat dairy products are essential to healthy skin, according to WebMD.
Exercise is great for your overall health of course. However, exercise also increases your blood flow which nourishes skin cells thereby giving skin a healthy glow. Exercise is also known as a stress reducer. Stress can sometimes cause acne breakout. Therefore, reducing stress by exercise makes it less likely that you’ll have acne breakouts.
Cleanse & Moisturize
First, understand what type of skin you have. Is it normal, oily, or a combination? Next, use a mild cleanser for your face and for your body. Try to refrain from using cleansers with heavy fragrance as that tends to dry out the skin even more or cause some other skin irritation. Be sure to moisturize immediately after cleansing. If you experience harsh breakouts or suffer from extremely dry skin, you may want to talk to a dermatologist about the best products for you to use.
Finally, seasons may affect your skin. For example, if your skin tends to be drier in the winter months, you may need to add an additional step to your routine – maybe coconut oil or a richer lotion.
