It’s a new year and the time when many people create New Year resolutions. Losing weight and getting healthy is usually at the top of the list. You may have heard about the green smoothie cleanse or you may have tried it. Some give up before the first day is over. But if you can make it through the ten days, with determination and sacrifice, you’re on your way to living a lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise.
I know I needed a plan to follow so when I found out about J.J. Smith’s book a couple of years ago, The 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse, I was more than ready to try it. I’ve had smoothies many times as a treat, but not as a healthy alternative. I now drink green smoothies on a regular basis.
My Green Smoothie Journey…So Far
Drinking green smoothies really gave me a jump-start on living a healthier lifestyle. I cook more at home now. That’s another story. But because I didn’t want to keep seeing my progress whittle away, by the second cleanse (I’ve done three.) I slowly began to change. We have to remember this is a journey. Sometimes, we’ll fall short but then we have to pick ourselves right up.
Now, I’ve never had a horrible diet. I did eat out too much and drink soda. I didn’t eat much fried food at all besides what I ate at other people’s houses on special occasions. But I do believe eating out too much (there’s a lot of calories in those foods) and drinking soda caused the weight gain.
I was used to being small to medium size, and maintained a weight of around 120 pounds until about age 22. So, I really didn’t notice that things were getting out of hand around 2014 when I was 35. I know that’s weird. By the time I got pregnant with my daughter, I was around 133 pounds and gained about 30+ pounds during that time. After I had her, I easily lost those pounds I had gained.
In my mid 30s, I weighed around 165 pounds. The weight started creeping up from there and before I knew it, it was just too much for me. I didn’t like how my clothes fit and I just wanted to be healthier and toned.
My advice is to start one thing or give up one thing at a time. I can tell you that I haven’t reached my goal weight yet, and following this method working for me. Sometimes it’s just too overwhelming to do too many things at once. For example, you could start by giving up something that is really not good for you. Then follow that up with eating more vegetables. And so on and so forth.
As for me, I had my last soda back in late August. I was done. Those things were not good for my mid-section and if I was going to be serious about getting in the best shape of my life, I knew I had to give up soda. Next, I started cooking at home more often. This isn’t only more healthy but it saves money too. Now I’m challenging myself to exercise more.
A Typical Healthy Eating Day
- Breakfast: Green Smoothie
- Snack: Tuna with boiled eggs and light vinaigrette dressing
- Lunch: Baked chicken and broccoli
- Snack: 2 boiled eggs or some other protein snack (Protein keeps you fuller longer.)
- Dinner: Green Smoothie and salad (Many times it may be another hot meal similar to what I had for lunch).
The key is to keep a food journal and keep track of your calories. You can use good ole plain pen and paper or an electronic app.
Some people think eating only fruit is good as a snack. Besides the high sugar content you could be taking in, you won’t stay satisfied for long. You need to have protein for more satisfaction. Most times, I like having a protein-based snack and a fiber rich snack together.
I have failed many times but I keep going to the next healthy meal. As long as you keep doing that, this will start to become normal. If you have unrealistic expectations in terms of weight loss, it may not work out for you.
How the 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse Works
I’ve made my own smoothies without the book but decided to see what information I probably was missing so I bought the book.
And yes, the 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse book gave me insight into so much more like the importance and uses for apple cider vinegar, how to cleanse your colon without seeing a professional, other nutritional information, and how our bodies work.
There is a different recipe for each of the 10 days. The author provides you with a shopping list which is super helpful for folk like me who do NOT like to shop for groceries. And then she gives you about 100 other recipes to try out plus you can read the testimonials of others.
The recipes call for organic greens and fruits. However, I did not purchase all organic items. I did purchase all of my fruits from the frozen section except the bananas of course. Just makes things easier for me. Did you know that frozen vegetables and fruits retain higher nutritional value? So, you’re good to go there!
I have a Nutribullet so the quantity in this recipe will be different for other blenders (the 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse book is very helpful in measuring this out). I love this blender because it takes only 1 minute for my green smoothie to be ready. It’s very efficient.
There are two versions to this cleanse, full and modified, plus you have healthy snacks in between. I did the modified version on my first try and lost 7 pounds. My second time around I did the full cleanse and lost 9 pounds. Some people have lost 15 pounds, 20 pounds and more.
The first time I made one of my favorite green smoothie recipes, I wanted to shout because it tasted like “ice cream!” No joke. It is that good! My friend didn’t believe me. She wondered how could a healthy green smoothie taste so good. It just does!Check out how I'm getting healthy with the green smoothie cleanse! #singlemoms #greensmoothies Click To Tweet
For around $10, the 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse book is super helpful!
From the author, J. J. Smith: “If you prepare your mind and absorb the knowledge offered to you in the 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse book, you will have all the power you need to become your best self and transform your life in every way.”
I’ve now completed 3 green smoothie cleanses since purchasing the book in late 2015. Two full cleanses and one modified cleanse. I’m at the point now where my body craves green smoothies, and I continue to drink them on a regular basis. My energy level has improved and I have no feelings of lethargy as I had before diving into this journey and giving up soda.
In summary, here are the top reasons why you need this book:
- It gives you a simple 10-day green smoothie plan to get you jump-started on weight loss.
- It discusses health benefits of a green smoothie cleanse, and other actions you can take to have a successful 10-day cleanse.
- It gives you over 100 green smoothie recipes. All you need is your ingredients and your blender.
- It gives you a list of healthy snacks that you can love long-term.
- It can be used and is great for the entire family. My teen daughter loves green smoothies!
The green smoothie cleanse book takes only about two hours to read in one sitting. It’s one of those books that draws you in and you can’t put down. Be sure to have highlighters or a note pad handy so you can take your notes. I even stuck little sticky notes on the pages I wanted to go back to for reference. Do what is easier for you!
